'Exhibits' are web sites that (by default) hold up to 50Mb of music, pictures and other art. They are free, but subject to rules. Their use is granted by the administration of SDF and may be terminated if the rules are broken. Please read the following information carefully. They are intended as exhibition spaces for current artworks and so are checked for 'freshness'. An exhibit that has not been updated in three months will automatically be taken offline (not deleted). All you need do is update your exhibit regularly and you'll be fine. All exhibits have bandwidth caps to prevent a disproportionate use of the combined bandwidth of the site. In the past we have had users dumping large files here, linked to sites such as MySpace. That's NOT the function of an exhibit. For the same reason, exhibits that do not have a first page (an index.htm) may be taken off line. We have a policy on 'mashups' and 'bootlegs'. These must have artistic merit. Our measure is this - there must be a written statement of artistic intent on the home page of the exhibit. Generally we consider works of 'plunderphonics' and comment to be justified. We do not consider name dropping of popular acts e.g. 'Beastie Boys VS Madonna' to be much above simple plagiarism, and these will be deleted. Other reasons for termination include - storage of illegal files, pornography, any involvement in unsolicited advertising (spam), and material inciting hatred. Tip: You can pay a fee to increase your storage and bandwidth, these extras are listed on the main exhibits page. A Guide to making an exhibit. To start an exhibit you should first create a web site on your own computer using one of the many tools available. Make
sure you test the web site on your hard drive first and that you follow
the rules. When you are ready, think of a name for the exhibit and a
password. Your work can either be exhibited or inhibited. Think of a stage and backstage. You set up the show backstage and then you present it all ready onstage. When you upload material it's not visible to others - it's inhibited. Let's upload some material. Click the menu upload and you are asked to find the file on your hard drive - index.html is a good place to start. Use Browse to find it and then Upload to send it. Once the file has been sent you will see it listed and be asked Upload Again? Keep doing this until all the files are uploaded. Now click on the menu content and see a list of the files you've sent. Right now they are labeled Staging which means you're assembling the show backstage. When you are ready, click the menu exhibit. Now they're visible to other people. If you were to click the menu inhibit, they are moved off the stage again and can't be seen. Of course you can only add and remove files that are inhibited. Now let's entitle the exhibit 'Andy Warhol's favorite shoes'. After a short while the exhibit appears to the Internet as the name with .sevcom.com after it. This exhibit will be andywarhol.sevcom.com You can immediately check it out by using the members menu or just link straight to your new URL.
